From Student to Coach: A First Serve Story

Aaron Silverman - Tennis Coach

By Aaron Silverman

Hello! I'm Aaron Silverman. I'm from Montclair, NJ and I've been coaching for First Serve Tennis for a couple of years now, but my experience with them goes back much further. My history with First Serve goes back to when I was a freshman in high school taking their high school clinics. I remember how much fun I had at the clinics doing drills and games, while also improving my skills and strategy. I started to take tennis more seriously and considered playing for my high school team, so I got private lessons from Aaron and Matt. My parents recognized my passion for playing tennis and going to clinics so they kept signing me up for more lessons. After a couple of years, attending these clinics became a crucial part of my routine. Through my participation, I gained the skills needed to be a competitive player.

Once Aaron and Matt started to notice that I was improving my skills in their clinics, had discipline and hard work, and a true passion for the game, they asked me to become a coach for their academy. To be a coach, you must have leadership qualities and inspire others to develop a love for the sport. Aaron and Matt saw those qualities in me and hired me. Coaching with First Serve Tennis has been so much fun the past couple of years. I'm able to interact with children and adults and help them improve their tennis skills while also making it fun! On top of helping them with their tennis skills, I'm able to build relationships with tons of great people.

Overall, it's been a crazy bunch of years evolving from a player to a coach. On top of that, First Serve Tennis has been very successful including branching out into pickleball, which can accommodate literally anyone who is interested in playing. Life can move in mysterious ways, and I’m glad my path collided with theirs!
